Daphne Poon

Hi! My name is Daphne, I was born and raised in Hong Kong, before coming to the US in 2017. I'm my happiest when I get to work on projects at the intersection of engineering, computer science, and robotics. I studied CS and Math at Harvey Mudd College until 2021, and since then I've been working at Waymo, helping self-driving cars make better lane changes.

In my free time, I like to do yoga, rock climb, and call friends and family.

Fun facts!

• My given name is Sik Yu (悉宇). I chose my English name, Daphne, at the age of 6. According to my parents, I thought 'Daphne' sounded like 'dolphin' and I really liked dolphins back then.
• Between the ages of 3 and 18 (when I left for college), I went ice skating once a week. Unfortunately, my turns and jumps are a little rusty now, but I'm always down to teach a friend!
• My first robot ever was a lego fighting robot that I made at summer camp when I was in middle school; pretty sure it got disassembled in the first round of fights.
